Michigan Forward Kevin Porter
On what the team has to do to prepare for tomorrow's game... "We have to learn from the loss. We have to come back tomorrow and play even harder. Ohio State is obviously going to have a lot of confidence coming into tomorrow night's game. If we come out and play like we did tonight, we are going to get beat again."
On Michigan's ineffectiveness on the faceoffs... "It is extremely tough. If you do not have control of the puck, then you are on defense. Especially when you are down in a game like this and you are trying to score goals, it is tough to lose the face-offs. You have to get the puck back first before you can go score a goal. So, it is definitely something we have to work on."
U-M Forward Chad Kolarik
On the game tonight... "We gave them that game. That short-handed goal was unacceptable. We can't turn the puck over like that; it cost us in the end. That was definitely the turning point. We had killed off the five-on-three right before that and we had the momentum. So, one mistake will cost you."
On the puck not bouncing Michigan's way... "It is definitely frustrating. Porter and I could have had six or seven breakaways each. The pucks were just bouncing and not going our way. But pucks usually go your way when you are working hard, and we were not working hard tonight."
U-M Head Coach Red Berenson
On the tonight's game... "I cannot tell you we had a strong game, starting with our puck touches and our passing. I think we have to give OSU credit; they played a good road game. They played a strong defensive game. They didn't give us a lot of time or space. They got a break on the short-handed goal; that changes the momentum of the game. We wanted to have a better start than we had. We had chances. I think I heard three posts ring in the first period, but it didn't matter. It was still a 0-1 game after the first period. Our special teams had to be a factor, and we were not able to do it."
On the team's confidence... "Any time you lose a game, you have to regroup and refocus. I think sometimes when teams are winning like we have been winning, and there are people telling us how good we are, that starts to go to our heads. There are players [on this team] who probably think we are going to win no matter how they play, and they have become passengers. We have been watching [Kevin] Porter and [Chad] Kolarik carry a large part of our offense in recent weeks, and I think it's important we get more balance in our attack, whether it's work ethic or puck touches or a combination."
