This Week: The Notre Dame Invitational ...
The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team will travel to South Bend, Ind., to participate at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday (Sept. 29). The scored meet will be held at the Notre Dame Golf Course and there will be Blue and Gold divisions in the race. The Wolverines will run in the Blue division, while the Gold division will be for mid-major schools. The men's event will be 8,000 meters and begin at 5 p.m.
Last Meet: The Spartan Invitational ...
Sophomore Lex Williams (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) led all Wolverines with a second-place finish at the Spartan Invitational (Sept. 15) at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. Michigan earned its first team victory since the 2004 season, placing first out of 11 teams. Williams completed the 8,000-meter course in 20:59. The rest of the Wolverines were not far behind as four of the top five spots were Michigan runners. The field consisted of 112 runners, with all 11 Wolverines finishing in the top 31.
Big Ten Runner Of The Week ...
Sophomore/freshman Brandon Fellows (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) was named Big Ten Conference Runner of the Week for his winning performance at the Michigan Open (Sept. 1). Competing in his first collegiate race, Fellows finished ahead of the Michigan Open pack, completing the 10,000-meter course in 32:14.
Familiar Faces ...
Michigan returns 11 letterwinners from last season's squad, including Mike Woods (Ottawa, Ontario/Hillcrest) and fifth-year senior Andrew Bauer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser HS). The Wolverines will still have a very young team in 2006 as Bauer will be the only runner in his final season of eligibility. Also returning to the U-M lineup are junior/sophomore Victor Gras (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS), junior Seth Thibodeau (Milford, Mich./Milford HS), senior/junior Ethan Brown (Lowell, Mass./Lowell HS) and junior James Reichardt (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS).

The Ron Warhurst File ...
Ron Warhurst is in his 33rd season as the head coach of the Michigan men's cross country team. During his U-M tenure, Warhurst has produced six Big Ten Conference championship teams (1974, '75, '76, '80(tie), '93, '97, '98) and guided 13 squads to top-10 performances at the NCAA Championships. Individually, Warhurst has coached 21 different student-athletes to 39 NCAA All-America citations while at Michigan.
On The Horizon ...
The Wolverines will head to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 14. The meet is slated for a 12:10 p.m. start.
