Wolverines Kick Off Competition at Big Ten Outdoor Meet

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team kicked off competition at the Big Ten Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday (May 12), competing in a pair of events on the first day of action at Michigan State's Young Track and Field Complex.
Sophomore Seth Thibodeau (Milford, Mich./Milford HS) posted a career-best performance among a talented conference field in the 10,000-meter run to cap the first day's activities, clocking a time of 30:27.83 in 13th place. The Wolverine shaved 13 seconds from his previous best, which he registered two weeks earlier at the Penn Relays.
In the only other final event of the day, junior Chris McHugh (Bonita Springs, Fla./Bishop Hendricken HS) was the top U-M finisher in the hammer throw competition, posting a mark of 172-4 to take ninth place, just 10 inches out of the final scoring position.
In his second career turn in the multi-events, senior/junior Adam Kiesler (Rochester, Ill./Rochester HS) sits ninth in the decathlon standings (3,089 points) after completing the opening half of the full 10-event rotation. Highlighting Kiesler's busy slate was a sixth-place finish in the shot put competition (36-3) and a personal-best 11.41 in the 100-meter dash.
Kiesler and the Wolverines will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, May 13) for the second day of competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in East Lansing, Mich. Events will begin with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles at 9:30 a.m. Michigan State's Young Track and Field Complex.
