Wolverines Post Strong Performances at Hillsdale Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- A small contingent from the University of Michigan men's track and field team competed at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays on Saturday (April 29) at the Hillsdale College Track, boasting several personal- or season-best performances in the final stretch before postseason competition.
Freshman Mike Luginbill (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) claimed 17th place overall in the 800-meter run behind a performance of 1:55.13. Junior/sophomore James Reichardt (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) took the 22nd position among the 145-man field in the 5,000-meter run, clocking a time of 14:47.35 in his season debut in the event, less than a second off of his personal best.
Freshman Rob Fiorillo (Holly, Mich./Holly HS) took 0.17 seconds off his 110-meter hurdles personal best, claiming fourth place in the event with a time of 14.74. Sophomore/freshman Rich LaCroix (Marine City, Mich./Marine City HS) took seventh place in the same event, matching his season-best 15.19.
Freshmen Stevann Waithe (Towson, Md./Loch Raven HS) and Marc Cooks (Arlington, Texas/Juan Seguin HS) claimed 19th and 20th place, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. Waithe registered a personal-best 57.00, while Cooks finished just a step behind with a time of 57.10.
In field events action, senior/junior Kevin Peterman (Livonia, Mich./Churchill HS) and senior Spencer Dowdall (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs HS) shared the fourth position in the final pole vault standings with a mark of 15-5, a season best for Dowdall. Sophomore/freshman Dan Bedoya (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer HS) completed the throws gamut with top-20 finishes in the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw. He registered personal-best mark in all three events, throwing 45-5 1/2 in the shot, 147-10 in the discus and 152-0 in the hammer throw.
The Wolverines will host the annual Len Paddock Invitational -- their lone outdoor meet -- on Friday and Saturday (May 5-6) at Ferry Field in Ann Arbor, Mich. The final tuneup before the postseason, the meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
