Freshman goaltender Steve Jakiel made his first career start this evening. The Santa Clarita, Calif., native made 24 saves on 29 shots.
Matt Hunwick's assist was the 59th of his career, tying him for 16th place on the U-M defenseman assist chart. He is tied with his former defensive partner Brandon Rogers (2002-05) and Chris Tamer (1990-93).
Kevin Porter increased his point streak to 13 games with a goal tonight. He has 12-12-24 totals during the stretch, which began on Oct. 27 vs. Northeastern. It marks the longest point streak by a Wolverine since Andy Hilbert had points in 16 straight games during the 2000-01 season.
T.J. Hensick's four assists set a career high; he had recorded three assists five times, including twice this season. He had three helpers in a span of 4:12 late in the second period and added his fourth midway through the final period. His second feed tonight was the 125th of his career.
Hensick's four-assist performance increased his career totals to 59-127-186. As a result, he passed Angie Moretto (16th place, 1973-76) to create a three-way tie with Jason Botterill and Mark Ouimet for 14th place. Hensick is also just one assist shy of tying Ouimet for sixth place on the all-time assists list.
Hensick upped his point streak to seven games, earning 3-11-14 totals during those contests.
Chad Kolarik set a career high with three assists in the game. He had previously notched two assists on 13 occasions.
Andrew Cogliano scored his fourth and fifth goals of the weekend tonight. He tied the game at 3-3 in the second period and scored U-M's sixth goal, the game-winner, at 12:11 of the third period. He has points in nine of the last 10 games for 9-6-15 totals.
