Post-Event Notes: Wolverine Intercollegiate

• Michigan's victory at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate is the first team title for the program in four years. The last time the Wolverines hoisted a team trophy was in the 2000-01 season, when the Maize and Blue won the Wolverine South Invitational (March 3-4, 2001) at the Hunter Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.

• Michigan's 839 54-hole team total at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate smashed the program's top mark for a tournament tally by 16 strokes. The previous record was an 855 total at the 1992 Stanford Invitational (Oct. 17-19).

• Michigan's first round tally of seven-under 277 at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate set a new standard for a team single round tally. That record didn't last long, as the Wolverines bettered that round total with a nine-under 275 in the second round of the Wolverine. In fact, the Wolverines have never shot below 280 in a tournament. The top single round total by a Wolverine program was a 281 in second round of the 1999 Xavier Invitational (Oct. 11) and a 281 in the third round of the 2000 Dr. Pepper/Tanglewood Intercollegiate (March 25).

• Christian Vozza used three straight under par rounds to win his first collegiate event at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate. He finished with a one-shot victory with a career-best 205 total (67-69-69). The last time a Wolverine has won medalist honors in a tournament was the 2001 Wolverine South Invitational (March 3-4), when Andrew Chapman secured his first win of his collegiate career with a rain-shortened 141 (72-69) 36-hole total.

• With three straight rounds under par (67-69-69), Christian Vozza shattered his career-best 54-hole tournament score with his seven-under 205 at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate. His previous best was a 210 at the 2003 Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 10-11), which was also played at the U-M Golf Course.

• With his career best 54-hole 205 total (67-69-69), Christian Vozza set the U-M record for individual tournament total. He bettered the record of former All-American Michael Harris by a single shot. Harris held the record with a 206 (70-67-69) at the 2000 Dr. Pepper/Tanglewood Intercollegiate (March 25-26).

• Christian Vozza's first round four-under 67 ties his all-time U-M Golf Course low in tournament play. At the 2003 Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 20-21), hosted at the U-M Golf Course, he fired a four-under 67 in the third round.

• So far in 2005-06, Christian Vozza has shot five of six rounds under par and is averaging 70.33 strokes per round. For his career, he has nine rounds under 70-strokes. He shot a career-best six under 66 in the third round of the 2004 Landfall Tradition (Oct. 31).

• For the second straight tournament, Michigan had three top 10 finishers. Leading to the team victory at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate, Christian Vozza took home medalist honors, Tim Schaetzel tied for fourth and Brian Ottenweller tied for sixth. Two weeks ago, Brandon Duff tied for seventh and Christian Vozza and Bill Rankin tied for 10th as U-M finished third at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate (Sept. 10-11).

• During all of the 2004-05 season, Michigan recorded 15 rounds under par and five under the 70-stroke barrier. Through two tournaments in 2005-06, the Wolverines already have 18 rounds under par with 10 rounds under 70.

• At the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate, Michigan had two players shoot three straight under par rounds. Medalist Christian Vozza had rounds of four-under 67 and back-to-back rounds of two-under 69, while Tim Schaetzel, who tied for fourth, had rounds of four-under 67 and back-to-back rounds of one-under 70.

• Brian Ottenweller had back-to-back career-best four-under 67s in the first two rounds of the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate. His previous best performance was when he recorded back-to-back one-under 71s at the 2004 Radrick Farms Intercollegiate (Sept. 11-12).

• With his back-to-back four-under 67s, Brian Ottenweller shattered his career-best 54 hole tournament tally by nine strokes. He finished with a 208 total at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate which topped the 217 he had at the 2004 Radrick Farms Intercollegiate (Sept. 11-12).

• Tim Schaetzel's first round four-under 67 at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate was a career-best by three strokes. His previous best was a two-under 70 in the second round of the 2005 Big Ten Championships (May 6-8) at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. In addition to the 70 at the conference championship, Schaetzel had back-to-back one-under 70s to close out the Wolverine Intercollegiate this weekend.

• With his 207 54-hole total at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate, Tim Schaetzel shattered his career-best 54-hole tournament total by 14 strokes. His previous best performance was a 221 total at the 2005 Big Ten Championships (May 6-8).

• In only a week Brandon Duff has set and reset his career-best for a single round tournament round total. In the opening tournament of 2005-06, the Hawkeye Invitational (Sept. 10-11), he fired a two-under 70 in the first round to set a new career mark. He topped that mark with a two-under 69 in the second round of the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate.

• Mark McIntosh's first round one-under 70 at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate tied a career-best for single round score. He had recorded a round of 70 three other times in his career. He also set a career-best for 54-hole tournament score with a 215 total at the Wolverine Intercollegiate. He topped the 220 he had at the 2002 Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 28-29).

• Matt McLaughlin's two-under 69 in the final round of the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate not only marked the first time he broke the 70-stroke barrier, it set a new career-best. He topped the even-par 71 he had the second round of the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate which tied his former-career-best single round. He also has a one-under 71 from the third round of the 2005 Boilermaker Invitational (April 17).

• Matt McLaughlin smashed his career-best for a 54-hole tournament total with his 212 tally at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate. His previous best was a 221 at the 2004 Radrick Farms Intercollegiate (Sept. 11-12).

• Will Kendall's two-under 69 in the final round of the 2005 Wolverine intercollegiate not only marked the first time he broke the 70-stroke barrier, it set a new career-best. He topped the one-under 70 he had at the 2003 Hoosier Invitational (Sept. 27-28).

• Will Kendall's 214 54-hole total at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate set a new career-best by 11 strokes. He had previously shot a 225 tournament total twice -- 2003 Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 20-21) and the 2003 Hoosier Invitational (Sept. 27-28).

• With his second round two-under 69, Kevin Dore now has four career rounds under the 70-stroke barrier. He had a career-best four-under 68 in the third round of the 2004 Big Ten Championships (May 9) at the U-M Golf Course.

• With Kevin Dore's 214 54-hole total at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate, he tied his career-best for 54-hole tournament total. He has two other occasions with a 214 total -- 2004 Big Ten Championships (May 8-9) and the 2003 Hoosier Invitational (Sept. 27-28).

• Nick Pumford and Brian Schielke both competed in their first collegiate events at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate. Pumford tied for 63rd with a 224 total (74-73-77), while Schielke was 81st with a 233 total (79-78-76).
