Michigan Finishes Play at Big Ten Singles Tournament

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Freshman Andrew Mazlin (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team fell shy in his attempt to win the consolation bracket at the Big Ten Conference Singles Championship, as he suffered a three-set loss in the semifinal round Monday morning (Nov. 14) at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
Mazlin, the 14th seed in the main draw, fell behind early to Penn State's Michael James with a 6-3 loss in the first set. Mazlin fought his way back into the match with a 7-6(5) win in the second set but then lost steam and surrendered the third set, 6-0. Mazlin, who won four matches to advance to the semifinals, moves his fall record to 8-4.
The Big Ten Singles Championship marked the final event of the fall season for U-M. The Wolverines will open 2006 by traveling to Coral Gables, Fla., to compete against Miami, Duke and Texas in a "hidden dual meet" format on Jan. 14-16.
