Six Wolverines Named CSCAA Academic All-Americans

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced Monday (July 26) that six members of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team were selected as Academic All-Americans for 2003-04. In addition, two student-athletes were named Honorable Mention Academic All-Americans.
Seniors Emily-Clare Fenn (Westport, Conn./Staples HS), Sara Johnson (West Bloomfield, Mich./Lahser HS), Kelli Stein (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Waterson HS) and Anne Weilbacher (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS); junior Amy McCullough (West Bloomfield, Mich./Mercy HS) and sophomore Abby Seskevics (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS) were honored as Academic All-Americans. Senior Lori Eberwein (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin HS) and junior Alexis Goolik (Highland, Ind./Highland HS) earned Honorable Mention Academic All-America recognition.
In order to earn Academic All-America status, a student-athlete must qualify for the NCAA Championships and achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for the year or semester of the meet, or a cumulative total. Honorable Mention Academic All-Americans are held to the same academic standards, and must achieve an NCAA "B" standard or qualify for the NCAA Regional Diving Zones.
Fenn, who graduated with a degree in elementary education, earned All-America honors in the 800-meter freestyle relay and All-America honorable mention in the 400-meter and 1,500-meter freestyle at the 2004 NCAA Championships (March 18-20).
Johnson, who graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, captured an All-America nomination in the 400-meter medley relay and an All-America honorable mention award in the 200-meter medley relay at the national meet. It is Johnson's second straight CSCAA Academic All-America award.
Stein, a 2004 NCAA All-American in the 400-meter medley relay and an All-America honorable mention in the 200-meter medley relay and the 100-meter breastroke, graduated with a degree in sport management.
Weilbacher, a communications major, was also an All-American in the 400-meter medley relay and earned four All-America honorable mention nominations (200-meter freestyle relay, 400-meter freestyle relay, 200-meter medley relay and 100-meter butterfly). It is Weilbacher's second career CSCAA academic award.
McCullough, who is majoring in movement science, earned a pair of All-America citations at the NCAA Championships, in the 400-meter medley relay and the 800-meter freestyle relay. She also was a two-time All-America honorable mention (100-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle relay). It is McCullough's second straight CSCAA award.
Seskevics, who is enrolled in the College of Literature Science and the Arts, was a three-time All-America honorable mention at the 2004 NCAA meet (200-meter freestyle relay, 400-meter freestyle relay, 200-meter medley relay).
Eberwein, a psychology major, achieved an NCAA "B" standard and season-best time of 16:48.33 in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Big Ten Conference Championships (Feb. 21).
Goolik, who is concentrating in materials science and engineering, placed 16th on both the one- and three-meter springboards and ninth on the platform at the NCAA Zone C Diving Meet (March 12-14).
