COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Already winners of two games in pool play earlier today at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, the seventh-ranked University of Michigan softball team faced off against the U.S. National Team as part of an "Aiming for Athens" tour in which Team USA faces select college programs as it prepares to defends its Olympic gold medal this summer in Athens, Greece.
Despite a 2-2 evening at the plate from Tiffany Haas (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill HS), the Wolverines fell 9-0 in five innings. Haas, who also stole a base, was the only Wolverine to record a hit in the contest.
Freshman Lorilyn Wilson (Salem, Ore./Sprague HS) made the start and struck out two batters, including leadoff hitter Natasha Watley in the first inning.
Michigan returns to regular tournament action tomorrow as it closes pool play against Georgia Tech at 10 a.m. With a win over the Yellow Jackets the Wolverines would clinch first place in Pool 1 and advance to the Gold Championship bracket later on Saturday.
