Greenless Leads Runners Across Line at Michigan Open

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's cross country team opened its season Tuesday (Sept. 2) with the Michigan Open at the U-M Golf Course. Senior Tom Greenless (Milford, Mich./Milford HS) led the pack to the finish line in the non-scoring 8,000-meter race, clocking a time of 26:24.
Fifth-year senior Alex L'Heureux (Weedon, Quebec/Palm Beach Gardens HS), running in his first official U-M cross country meet, crossed the line in second place with a time of 26:29. Senior captain Nick Stanko (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt HS) finished third at 26:41, while junior Sean Moore (Saline, Mich./Saline HS) and senior Tarn Leach (East Jordan, Mich./East Jordan HS) both crossed the finish line at 26:54 to round out the top five.
Michigan's two returning All-Americans -- junior Nate Brannen (Cambridge, Ontario/Preston HS) and sophomore Nick Willis (Lower Hutt, New Zealand/Hutt Valley HS) -- did not race.
The Wolverines will have a two-week hiatus before returning to action for the Michigan State Open at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in East Lansing, Mich.
