COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 25 University of Michigan men's soccer team earned its program-best 13th win of the season Saturday night (Nov. 1), as the Wolverines received a late goal by freshman Bobby Trybula (Loveland, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller HS) in a 1-0 shutout of Ohio State in Jesse Owens Stadium. The goal was the first of Trybula's career wearing the Maize and Blue.

Following a corner kick from sophomore Adam Bruh (Roselyn Heights, N.Y./Wheatley HS), the ball banged around the Buckeye goal box, eventualy resting on the foot of senior tri-captain Kevin Taylor (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) eight yards from the goal mouth. Taylor then sent a quick forward pass to Trybula, who accepted the pass with his back to the net six yards out, turned and sent a soft volley with his left foot to the back of the net.
Prior to Trybula's goal, the Wolverines only had four shots in the game and only two shots on goal to the Buckeyes' 13 and eight. Trybula only had one career shot coming into the game, and the freshman doubled that stat this evening as he converted his lone scoring opportunity of the match.
Senior Kevin Robinson (Caro, Mich./Faith Baptist HS) made it interesting in the final minute of play as he was given a red card and sent off the field at 89:23. That forced the Wolverines to play with only 10 players for the final 36 seconds. However, Michigan was able to keep the Buckeyes off the board and claimed the 1-0 victory.
The Buckeyes controlled the offensive statistics as they made sophomore goalkeeper Peter Dzubay (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview HS) work extra hard, making six saves in that 45 minutes of action. Dzubay finished the game with eight saves, while Burse made two saves and allowed the game's lone goal.
The Wolverines have a week off from competition before they travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the Big Ten Conference Championship. The Championship runs Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 13-16, and will be held on Indiana University's Armstrong Stadium. Seedings for the Championship will be released by the league office following the conclusion of the Indiana at Penn State match next Saturday (Nov. 8).

Q U O T E S
U-M Head Coach Steve Burns
On the game ... "It was a good win. It wasn't a pretty game, but we came away with a victory and that again speaks to this team's maturity. To have the patience to not pressure ourselves with the game tied late, then get the game-winner shows that this team has come a long way since we began things here four years ago."
On the shot differential ... "All game long they had the outside shot. We are going to let them have that shot, because by no means did they have a lot of pressure on our goal. We had three very dangerous plays on offense and actually scored on the least dangerous. When it comes down to it, this was a good score."
On the season ... "I think the expectations that we placed in front of us have become a reality now. Our players and assistant coaches are making that happen. Bit by bit our visions have become clearer and clearer. This has given a wholistic reality. I have to give a great deal of credit to my coaching staff. They have done a great job of bringing in some very talented players. Those players have done a great job on the field to get us where we are today."
