CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Juniors Emily-Clare Fenn (Westport, Conn./Staples HS) , Sara Johnson (West Bloomfield, Mich./Lahser HS) and Anne Weilbacher (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS) earned victories as the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team completed a 225.50-141.50 victory over Illinois this evening (Saturday, Jan. 18) at IMPE Pool. The No. 19 Wolverines, who led 76-34 after the first day of competition, evened their dual meet record to 2-2 with the win, while Illinois fell to 4-3 on the season. No. 18 Notre Dame also competed in the two-day meet, but no score was kept between U-M and the Irish since the two teams have a dual meet scheduled Feb. 1.

Weilbacher earned wins in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events. With her time of 56.90 in the 100, the junior co-captain secured Michgan's first win of the night. Weilbacher then took the 200-yard butterfly by over two seconds with her time of 2:04.45.
Fenn completed a successful weekend against the Illini, adding victories in the 200- and 1,650-yard freestyles to her title in the 500-yard freestyle yesterday (Jan. 17). Fenn earned NCAA consideration with her mark of 16:48.59 in the 1,650-yard race, swimming to a 14-second advantage over the rest of the field. Fenn won a close battle with Illinois' Kirsten Koepeke in the 200-yard freestyle, besting Koepeke's time by just over 0.3 seconds with her result of 1:53.08.
Fenn continued to be a workhorse for the Wolverines, swimming in a total of 10 events throughout the weekend. Fenn spearheaded Michigan's success in the 400-yard individual medley, achieving the Wolverines' fastest mark and setting a season-best time (4:27.06) in the process. Johnson finished second in 4:32.05, after Fenn's time was exhibitioned, and senior Julie Kern (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) was third at 4:32.68. Both Johnson and Kern set season bests with their swims in the event.
Johnson's first win of the season came in the 200-yard backstroke as the junior swam to a 2:03.96 clocking, leading the race from the outset.
Michigan closed out the weekend's competition with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, bettering its earlier second-place showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The unit of Fenn, Abby Seskevics (Grand Haven. Mich./Grand Haven HS), Johnson and Weilbacher earned a winning time of 3:32.43. Johnson's split was the fastest of her leg of the relay and helped Michigan's squad take the lead for good.
Michigan's divers had a good night, taking places two through five in the three-meter competition. Junior Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends School), sophomore Alexis Goolik (Highland, Ind./Highland HS), senior Kelly Vander Kuyl (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) and Emily Koglin (Heyworth, Ill./Normal University HS) all earned NCAA zone diving consideration scores with their performances.
The Wolverines will return to the state of Illinois next Saturday (Jan. 25) to take on Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CST start.
