The Maize and Blue began the tournament with doubles action on Friday (Sept. 20) against squads from Harvard, Brown and Purdue. Michigan picked up three wins on the afternoon, including sophomore Michael Rubin's (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) first career victory at U-M, teaming up with junior Brett Baudinet (Rarotonga, Cook Islands/King's College) for an 8-4 win over Purdue's Colin Foster and Carl McCafferty.
The Wolverines came out strong on Saturday (Sept. 21), earning wins in 13 of 16 singles matches. Senior Chris Shaya (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Saddlebrook Academy, Fla.), junior Anthony Jackson (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS), sophomores David Anving (Tvaaker, Sweden/Varbergs Gymnasieskola) and Vinny Gossain (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS) and freshman Carey Rubin (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) all posted perfect 2-0 records on the day. The day was highlighted by Jackson's tiebreaker victory over Notre Dame's No. 85-ranked player, Matthew Scott, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(7).
U-M was unable to complete tournament play on Sunday (Sept. 22) due to inclement weather conditions in the South Bend area.
Michigan will head to Chattanooga, Tenn., to compete in pre-qualifying action at the ITA All-American Championships on Oct. 4-7.
