U-M Trio Competes at ITA All-American Championship

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Three members of the University of Michigan men's tennis team wrapped up prequalifying competition Sunday (Oct. 6) at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championship held at The Champions Club.
Sophomore Michael Rubin (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) led the way for the Wolverines, posting a 3-1 tournament record. Rubin came within a victory of advancing into the qualifying portion of the draw, losing 6-2, 6-4 in the deciding match to Florida's Troy Hahn. Rubin started the tournament by winning a pair of tiebreakers against Middle Tennessee's Brandon Allen, posted a commanding 6-3, 6-3 win over Midwest Regional opponent Chris Varga of Ball State, and won an impressive 6-1, 7-5 match over Louisiana State's Rafael Corazza.
Junior Anthony Jackson (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS) split a pair of singles matches at the championship. Jackson beat North Carolina's Jonathan Janda 6-2, 7-6(5) before losing 6-3, 6-4 to Florida State's Romain Jurd. Sophomore David Anving (Tvaaker, Sweden/Varbergs Gymnasieskolu HS) won the opening set against Vanderbilt's Matt Lockin before losing in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).
In doubles, Jackson and Rubin split a pair of matches.
