Three of the Wolverines' five Scholastic All-Americans were regulars in at least one event lineup throughout the season. Grieco earned All-America first team honors and finished 13th in the nation in the floor exercise at the 2002 NCAA Championships. MacKenzie, a former walk-on, participated in the vault, uneven bars and balance beam, while Kuczera focused on the uneven bars and balance beam. The trio helped U-M to its fourth consecutive Big Ten Conference title and a seventh-place finish at the national championships.
Michigan gymnasts have now earned 55 Scholastic All-America citations in head coach Bev Plocki's 13-year tenure. The team's Big Ten title in 2002 was its 10th in 11 years, and the top-10 national finish was the 10th consecutive for the Wolverines.
