Matthews' other three-round total of 214 (72-75-67) came in U-M's fall opener at the Badger Classic (Sept. 8-9) in Madison, Wis.
Michigan also received a strong performance from senior Andrew Chapman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS), who in the second round carded a career-best, four-under-par 67. Chapman's career-best 67 was one stroke off the tournament low round turned in by Marshall's Burke Spensky, who shot a third-round 66. Chapman finished tied for 12th with a 54-hole score of 217 (79-67-71).
In addition to Matthews and Chapman, the Wolverines had two other golfers finish in the top 50.
