AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior Lindsay Carlberg (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) made her last race as a member of the No. 18-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team a memorable one. With a career-best time of 1:57.76 in the 200-yard backstroke on Saturday (March 23) at the NCAA Championships, Carlberg placed 11th in the event and earned her second All-America Honorable Mention award of the 2002 NCAA Championships and sixth of her career.
With Carlberg's help, Michigan concluded the NCAA Championships at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center with 20.5 points to place 27th. Auburn, with 474 points, captured its first-ever title in women's swimming and diving, while Georgia (386 points) and Stanford (301) rounded out the top three.
Three other Wolverines competed on Saturday, with the next highest finish coming from sophomore Kelli Stein (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Waterson HS). With a time of 2:16.26, Stein secured a 23rd-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Freshman Amy McCullough (West Bloomfield, Mich./Mercy HS) also placed in the top 30 with a time of 16:46.24 and 28th-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle, while sophomore Annie Weilbacher (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS) was .04 of a second of her career best in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 50.69, good for 42nd place.

California sophomore Natalie Coughlin added to her incredible performance this weekend with another record in the 200-yard backstroke. A day after becoming the first woman to ever swim the 100-yard backstroke in under 50 seconds, Coughlin established new marks for the NCAA, American and U.S. Open record books with a time of 1:49.52 in the 200-yard backstroke.
The other records broken on Saturday belonged to Georgia. Junior Maritza Correia, with a time of 47.56 in the 100-yard freestyle, broke the previous NCAA, American and U.S. Open records of 47.61, set by Jenny Thompson of Stanford in 1992.
