ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Nine members of the University of Michigan men's cross country team ran unattached at the Eastern Michigan Classic held today (Friday, Oct. 25) at Buhr Park. Alex L'Hereux (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens HS), a junior on the U-M men's track and field team, was the top Wolverine finisher in the non-team scoring event, which featured a field that ran largely unattached to their parent institutions.
L'Hereux finished in a tie for ninth place with a time of 25:23 in his first action since transferring to Michigan from Lehigh College this fall. Rondell Ruff (Detroit, Mich./Henry Ford HS) and Andrew Bauer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser HS), the 5,000-meter open champion at the Central Collegiate Championships (Sept. 27) at Buhr Park, finished the race in 15th and 16th place, respectively, posting times of 26:02. For both unattached Wolverines, it was their first 8,000-meter race as collegians.
The No. 12-ranked Wolverines will vie for the conference title next Sunday (Nov. 3) at the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. The race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Purdue's new Varsity Cross Country Course.
