Wolverines Fall to North Carolina at Temple Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team saw its season-high three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 8) as the Wolverines fell 2-1 to North Carolina in the semifinals of the Temple Invitational.
Sophomore forward Molly Powers (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) provided the lone marker for the Wolverines (3-2) off an assist from sophomore defender Kristi Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS). Senior goalkeeper Maureen Tasch (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS), who saw her shutout streak of three games ended, made three stops in the loss. Freshman Molly Maloney (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS) made two saves in a relief effort while making her first appearance of the season.
North Carolina (4-0) received goals from Charlotte Pugge and Abby Martin, while Amy Tran halted nine shots.
Michigan will conclude play in the Temple Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 9) at 11 a.m., facing Maine in the consolation game. The Black Bears suffered a 4-3 overtime defeat to Temple in the first semifinal.
