This Week
The University of Michigan women's cross country team will compete in its first meet since Sept. 8 when it travels to Bronx, N.Y., to compete in the Iona Meet of Champions on Saturday (Sept. 28). The meet will cover 6,000 meters at Van Cortland Park and is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.
Last Week
The Wolverines did not compete last week due to an open weekend on their schedule. Michigan has not competed in over two weeks as the Spiked Shoe Invitational that was slated for Sept. 15 was cancelled due to the tragic events in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.
Young Guns
Of the 11 runners the Wolverines sent to compete at the Miami Invitational (Sept. 8), six were running in their first scored meet on the collegiate level. All six finished in the top 50, including redshirt freshman Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS), who had the best showing out of the young group by finishing in eighth place with a time of 18:48. Amy Hatfield (Saline, Mich./Saline HS), who placed 27th (19:52), was the only other redshirt freshman out of the six as Chelsea Homan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS), Chelsea Loomis (Traverse City, Mich./West HS), Sarah Pizzo (Golden, Colo./Mullen HS) and Edna Kollartis (Whitehouse, Ohio/Maumee Valley C.D.S.) competed as true freshmen.
National Ranking
After ranking 24th in the preseason poll, Michigan dropped out of the FinishLynx women's cross country poll which was released on Tuesday (Sept. 25). Three teams from the Big Ten Conference remain ranked: No. 5 Wisconsin, No. 19 Minnesota and No. 24 Michigan State.
