IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team evened its Big Ten Conference record with a 1-0 shutout of the University of Iowa on Sunday (Sept. 23).
U-M (3-4, 1-1 Big Ten) had the momentum for the entire match, creating one opportunity after another. The Wolverines had seven shots in the first half but were unable to score any goals. Erika Kleinholz (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Elyria Catholic HS) had three shots for U-M in the first half while Abby Crumpton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) had four.
After the break, the Wolverines continued with their offensive pressure and forced a corner kick that was taken by Amy Sullivant (Utica, Mich./Eisenhower HS). QUOTES
Michigan Head Coach Debbie Rademacher
On the team's performance at Iowa compared to Illinois ... "Both games were very good games. Today we played against different conditions though. There was a lot of wind and water on the field compared to being at Illinois. Today we had lots of opportunities, but we didn't finish. I was happy to pull out a win."
On Andrea Kayal's goal ... "Her goal was beautiful. Amy (Sullivant) made a great pass off the corner to Andrea, who was sprinting in from the far post. She headed it in the net. It couldn't have been better executed."
On next weekend's home matches ... "There is no easy game on our schedule and we certainly don't have any weekends where we can take a break from hard play. This week we will work on our attacking schemes and work on creating opportunities. We also need to execute. Every Big Ten game is the biggest game of the season for us."
