Michigan Eliminated by Minnesota in Big Ten Quarters

MADISON, Wis. -- The fifth-seeded University of Michigan men's tennis team had its Big Ten Conference title hopes dashed with a 4-0 loss to fourth-seeded Minnesota today (Friday, April 27) in the quarterfinals of the 2001 Big Ten Championship. The Golden Gophers (12-10, 6-4 Big Ten) got doubles victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to secure the team point, then received straight-set wins by Jorge Duenas, Jon Svensson and Chris Wettengel to close out the match.
Minnesota advances to tomorrow's semifinal match against top-seeded Illinois (April 28, 10 a.m. CDT), while Michigan awaits selection of the 64-team NCAA Championship field on May 3.
