WALNUT, Calif. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field sent a partial squad to the Mt. SAC Relays, hosted by Mt. San Antonio College over the weekend (April 20-22). The non-scoring event involved athletes from numerous college programs as well as international competition and track clubs.
Saturday's best finish came from senior Ravi Smith (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup HS), who took third in the 400-meter dash in the fourth section. Freshman Tom Greenless (Milford, Mich./Milford HS) added a fifth-place showing in his section of the 800. The best event of the day came in the 1,500, where freshman Brian Turner (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS) edged out fellow freshman Mason Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain HS) by three one-hundredths of a second for fifth.
On Sunday, the Maize and Blue added two more third-place performances at the highly competitive meet. Junior Ike Okenwa (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) had one of the finishes in the 200-meter dash, while senior co-captain Josh Sellers (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee HS) had one of his best runs in the 400-meter hurdles, taking third with a time of 51.67. Sellers was only 16 hundredths of a second behind the winner.
The Wolverines will participate in two meets next weekend (April 26-28). One group will head to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., while the other competes at the Hillsdale Relays in Hillsdale, Mich.
