Wolverines Crush Michigan State for Fourth Straight Win

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- In the 100th all-time meeting between the two rivals, the University of Michigan men's tennis team defeated Michigan State 6-1 Wednesday night (April 11) at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Wolverines (10-7, 4-3 Big Ten) swept the doubles and won five of six singles matches to collect their fourth consecutive conference victory and win on the road for the first time this season.
After winning all three doubles matches by identical 8-4 scores to earn the team point, the Wolverines proceeded to post singles wins at No. 2 through No. 6 to clinch the victory. Juniors Ben Cox (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS), Dan McCain (Largo, Fla./Canterbury School) and Greg Novak (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Cardinal Newman HS) as well as freshmen Anthony Jackson (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS) and Brett Baudinet (Auckland, New Zealand/King's College) produced straight-set wins for the Wolverines.
Michigan State claimed its only point of the match at the top singles spot as Eric Simonton won 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 over junior Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) in a match that took nearly three hours.
Michigan, now 83-17 against Michigan State, continues Big Ten Conference play with an Easter Sunday match (April 15) against the Iowa Hawkeyes at the Klotz Tennis Courts in Iowa City, Iowa. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. CDT.
