TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan softball team is heading back to Ann Arbor today (Friday, March 2) after bad weather and rain cancelled the Alabama Crimson Classic before the tournament ever got started.
Michigan was set to play two games today, against Marshall at 11 a.m. and Evansville at 1:30 p.m. After a two-hour rain delay, the weather continued to make the first game unplayable. With the forecast calling for more bad weather, Wolverine head coach Carol Hutchins opted to bring her team back home as they got an earlier flight back to Ann Arbor.
U-M (6-7) will have two weeks off before participating in the Florida State Invitational March 16-18 in Tallahassee, Fla. The Wolverines open the tournament on Friday (March 16) against Massachusetts (noon) and Maryland (6 p.m.).
