Koman hit .467 (7-for-15) in Big Ten Tournament action with homers vs. Ohio State and Penn State and was 3-for-3 in the 3-2 loss to Minnesota in the championship game.
A second team All-Big Ten selection in 2001, Koman continued his 2001 success last summer, earning a starting all-star berth for the Concord (N.H.) Quarry Dogs in the New England Baseball League. In fact, he hit a home run in his first all-star at bat.
"Brock Koman had an excellent season as a sophomore and his preseason All-American selection is well deserved," said Michigan interim head coach Chris Harrison.
Koman, who won the Bill Freehan Award as Michigan's top hitter (.383) in 2001, has a .335 career batting average (126-for-376) with 14 homers and 87 RBI in his 104 starts as a Wolverine.
Michigan opens the 2002 season by facing Oregon State (Feb. 22) in tournament action in Riverside, Calif. The Wolverines are scheduled to play nine games on the spring break trip to California (Feb. 22-March 3).
