Great Start
Freshman Amy McCullough (West Bloomfield, Mich./Mercy HS) won her first collegiate meet on Nov. 2 when she posted a time of 10:00.92 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. The next day, McCullough became only the second member of the Michigan team to win multiple events at the Minnesota Invite when she outpaced the field in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:54.10.
Backing In
Senior Lindsay Carlberg (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS), a four-time NCAA All-America Honorable Mention recipient, won both backstroke events at the Minnesota Invitational. In the 100-yard backstroke, Carlberg finished with a winning time of 56.70, followed by a victorious performance in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.32.
Impressive On the Boards
Sophomore Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends HS) put together a solid inaugural season last year, with the pinnacle coming at the Big Ten Conference Championships when she placed sixth on the three-meter board with a score of 468.50. This year she has been equally impressive, winning three out of four events. Against Florida (Oct. 19) she swept the one- and three-meter and at the Minnesota Invitational (Nov. 2-3), she was victorious on the three-meter board with a score of 300.30.
An Element of Success
If sophomore Annie Weilbacher (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis De Sales HS) is on a relay team, odds are it will be successful. Along with winning the 100-yard butterfly at the Minnesota Invitational with a time of 56.72, Weilbacher was also on the relay team that finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:30.07). So far in the 2001-02 season, Weilbacher has competed on six relay teams that have placed in the top two overall, including four that finished in first place.
