SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The No. 23-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team had its five-game unbeaten streak snapped Sunday (Oct. 28), falling 2-1 in overtime to No. 8 Notre Dame at Alumni Field. The Fighting Irish's Amanda Guertin netted the game-winner 11:27 minutes into overtime, while the Wolverines managed just one shot in the extra period.
Abby Crumpton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) scored U-M's only goal 74:40 into the game. Crumpton scored on a breakaway just outside the 18-yard mark as she carried the ball into the box and fired a shot to the top right corner of the net for her third goal in two games, evening the score at 1-1. The unassisted goal was Crumpton's team-leading ninth of the season.
The first half saw Notre Dame outshoot U-M 9-2, but the Wolverine defense limited the Irish's quality scoring changes. Goalkeeper Bre Bennett (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) made three big saves in the first half to keep the Irish off the scoreboard and ended up making seven total saves, including two in overtime.
The Wolverines (10-6-1, 8-2 Big Ten) wrap up their regular-season schedule with a home match against Western Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. at the U-M Soccer Field.
