Wolverines Drop Big Ten Dual Meet at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team lost 157-143 to No. 23 Northwestern in dual-meet action Saturday (Jan. 27) at the Wildcats' Norris Aquatic Center.
Freshman Emily Fenn (Westport, Conn./Staples HS) won the 1,650-yard freestyle in an NCAA consideration time of 1:49.96 and added a victory in the 500 freestyle (4:57.56) to lead the U-M swimmers. Freshman Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends School) also posted two wins, sweeping the one- and three-meter diving events with NCAA zone qualifying marks of 297.60 and 307.56, respectively.
Michigan's other first-place finishes came from 2000 Olympic gold medalist Samantha Arsenault (Peabody, Mass./Gardner HS), who had an NCAA consideration time of 1:49.96 in the 200-yard freestyle, and All-American Jennifer Crisman (Hudsonville, Mich./Jenison HS), who won the 100-yard backstroke in 56.56 as well as taking second place in the 100-yard butterfly (56.62).
The Wolverines (4-5, 4-2 Big Ten) are off until the Big Ten Conference Championships Feb. 15-17 at Bloomington, Ind. Michigan will not be competing in the Nebraska Invitational (Feb. 2-3) as originally scheduled.
