Crisman Leads U-M on Day One of Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team completed a strong first round of events on Friday (Jan. 12) at the Wolverine Invitational at Canham Natatorium. U-M swept both relays and placed first in four of six events to seize an 82-28 lead over Big Ten rival Illinois, while No. 16 Notre Dame leads Illinois 57-48.
Leading the way for the Maize and Blue was captain and senior All-American Jennifer Crisman (Hudsonville, Mich./Jenison HS), who finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.62. Taking third place in the event was senior All-American Missy Sugar (Newburgh, Ind./Evansville Day School) by just six one-hundredths of a second.
Freshman Emily Fenn (Westport, Conn./Staples HS) led a 1-2 Michigan finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of a time of 4:56.07. Freshman Lori Eberwein (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin HS) finished second, clocking in at 4:57.19. Another freshman with a strong performance was Sara Johnson (West Bloomfield, Mich./Lahser HS), who came in second place in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:05.52 mark.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Crisman, Sugar, Johnson and freshman Annie Weilbacher (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS) came in first place with a time of 1:35.34. The 400-yard medley relay team of Crisman, Sugar, Weilbacher and sophomore Traci Valasco (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) also came in first, with a mark of 3:51.53.
Freshman Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends School) led the charge in the diving competition, placing second in the one-meter dive with an NCAA zone qualifying mark of 261.45.
The Wolverine Invitational continues Saturday (Jan. 13) with an 8:30 a.m. morning session and concludes with an evening session beginning at 5 p.m.
