Michigan Falls to No. 17-Ranked Southern California

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The No. 21-ranked Michigan women's soccer team dropped its second game at the Arizona State Sun Devil Classic, losing 2-1 to No. 17 Southern California Sunday (Sept. 3).
The Trojans opened the scoring with a goal 12:43 into the game on a five-yard blast by Isabelle Harvey. Michigan answered with sophomore Amy Sullivant's (Utica, Mich./Eisenhower HS) first goal of the season at the 17:10 of the first half.
Southern California took the lead in the 56th minute off of Harvey's second tally. The Wolverines hammered four shots on Trojan goaltender Lauren Arase but could not get another one by.
Freshman Suzie Grech (Narbeth, Pa./The Shipley School) made the start in net for the Wolverines, making one save and allowing two goals in 90 minutes of play.
The Wolverines host the Michigan Nike Invitational Friday and Sunday, Sept. 8-10, at the Michigan Soccer Field. Michigan will face Washington (Sept. 8) and Missouri (Sept. 10).

-- Four freshmen saw their first game action this weekend at the Sun Devil Classic. Stephanie Chavez (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood HS), Suzie Grech, Erika Kleinholz (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Elyria Catholic HS) and Amber Wilson (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West HS) all made their debuts for the Wolverines.
