Barda struck out six Boilermakers and gave up five hits to improve to 9-3 for the season. She opened the conference season with a 1-0 shutout of Indiana on Friday (March 31), then earned a save in Saturday's (April 1) 3-2 win at Purdue.
Michigan (26-6, 4-0 Big Ten) scored both of its runs in the second inning. Pam Kosanke (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central HS) reached on a one-out single to left field, then came home on a double by Melissa Gentile (O'Fallon, Mo./Wentzville HS) for the first U-M score. An error by Purdue pitcher Meagan Dooley on Rebecca Tune's (Aloha, Ore./Jesuit HS) infield hit allowed Gentile to score unearned from second.
The Boilermakers (20-19, 1-3 Big Ten) held Michigan in the next two innings, before stranding Kelsey Kollen (Cerritos, Calif./Santa Ana Mater Dei HS) at third base in the fifth to stop a U-M scoring threat. Melissa Taylor (Petersburg, Mich./Summerfield HS) singled twice to lead the five-hit Michigan offense.
Michigan is scheduled to open the home portion of its 2000 season schedule Tuesday (April 4) with a 3 p.m. Alumni Field doubleheader vs. Bowling Green State University.
