Taylor's Three-Run Double Buries Bowling Green

Taylor, who finished the day 2-for-3 and extended her streak of two-hit games to four, sent Pam Kosanke (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central HS), Chrissy Garza (Southgate, Mich./Anderson HS) and Lisa Mack (Saline, Mich./Saline HS) across the plate with her game-ending hit.
First baseman Marissa Young (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei HS) put the Wolverines on the scoreboard with an RBI single to centerfield in the first inning. U-M (34-8) jumped to a 4-0 lead scoring three runs in the third on a single by Stefanie Volpe (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth-Salem HS) and back-to-back doubles by Young and Melinda Moulden (LaCrescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley HS). Kim Bugel (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest HS) scored on Kosanke's single to deep centerfield to give Michigan a 5-0 lead in the fourth.
Senior pitcher Jamie Gillies (Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS) tossed a two-hitter, allowing no Bowling Green runner past first base. Gillies (7-2) struck out four and gave up two walks in the shutout. Andrea Genter (3-5) took the loss for the Falcons (21-12).
Michigan hits the road for a pair of Big Ten Conference weekend two-game series, beginning with a first-place doubleheader showdown at the University of Iowa on Friday (April 21).

Michigan's pitchers have now held the opponent scoreless for the last 21 1/3 innings, dating back to the fourth inning of the second game against Ohio State (April 14). Included in the streak are complete-game shutouts by Marissa Young vs. Penn State (five innings, April 15), Marie Barda (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South HS) vs. Penn State (April 16), and Jamie Gillies vs. Bowling Green (six innings, April 19).
The first of Jamie Gillies' four strikeouts was her 150th career K. She is one of nine Michigan pitchers to record 150 or more strikeouts. Gillies, 3-0 lifetime against the Falcons, is 3-1 vs. Mid-American Conference teams this season.
Pam Kosanke, 1-for-2 against the Falcons, is one hit shy of posting her 200th career hit. The senior leads U-M with a .400 batting average.
Michigan goes to 18-4 all-time with a six-game win streak alive vs. Bowling Green. . . . The Wolverines improve to 5-1 vs. Mid-American Conference competition this season.
