Three Wolverines to Compete at Zone Diving Meet
The seventh-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team will send three team members to compete in the 2000 NCAA Zone C Diving Meet. Senior Hanna Shin (Inverness, Ill./Fremd HS), along with juniors Amanda Crews (Champaign, Ill./Champaign Central HS) and Theresa DeSitter (Lisle, Ohio/Aurora [Ill.] Rosary HS) have qualified to participate in the two-day event, which will be held Friday and Saturday (March 10-11) at the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
This marks DeSitter's first appearance at the event, while Shin and Crews each participated in the 1998 and '99 meets. The action starts on Friday with a single session beginning at 11 a.m. CST, while Saturday will feature two sessions -- the first at 10 a.m. and the second at 4 p.m.

Wolverine Performances at 1999 NCAA Zone Diving Meet
At last year's NCAA Zone Diving Meet, Hanna Shin and Amanda Crews each turned in solid performances for the Maize and Blue. Each had top-15 finishes in both the one-meter springboard and platform events. Shin's and Crews' 1999 NCAA Zone Diving results:

Big Ten Championships Diving Results
At the 2000 Big Ten Conference Championships (Feb. 17-19) in Indianapolis, Ind., junior Amanda Crews placed 11th in the one-meter diving (347.05 points), 19th in the three-meter diving (222.75), and sixth in the exhibition platform diving (348.45).
Senior Hanna Shin did not participate in the one-meter diving, while finishing 18th in the three-meter diving (223.65 points) and fifth in the platform diving (361.40). Junior Theresa DeSitter did not participate in both the one-meter and platform diving while finishing 21st in the three-meter diving at 215.10.

Crews Diver of the Week for Second Time
Junior Amanda Crews was named as Big Ten Diver of the Week for her strong performance in U-M's 153-119 victory over Rice on Jan. 22. Crews turned in a first-place finish in the one-meter dive with a 275.63 score and a second-place finish in the three-meter dive at 274.43. Both scores are NCAA zone diving qualifying marks. The honor marks the second time she has been the award's recipient. Her previous selection was awarded last season on Jan. 20, 1999.
Michigan Places Second at Big Ten Championships
Michigan placed second at the 2000 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, held Feb. 17-19 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. The Wolverines turned in 11 top-10 finishes along with two first-place performances on the final day, yet it was not enough as defending champion Minnesota captured its second consecutive Big Ten title, with 562.5 points.
The Wolverines were led by a spectacular performance by senior All-American Shannon Shakespeare (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Kelvin SS). The 17-time All-American accounted for 98.5 team points while turning in four record-shattering performances in three days. She also was a part of an incredible six first-place finishes -- three such finishes for both individual and relay events. Junior All-American Jennifer Crisman (Hudsonville, Mich./Jenison HS) also was part of two record-setting events (one individual, one relay).
Shakespeare in Elite Company
With her 200-yard individual medley victory at the 2000 Women's Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships (Feb. 17-19), Shannon Shakespeare became just the sixth swimmer to win a Big Ten Championships event in four consecutive years (1997-98-99-00).
Seven Wolverines Among NCAA Qualifiers
Seven Michigan swimmers have qualified for the NCAA Championships March 16-18 in Indianapolis, Ind., led by senior Shannon Shakespeare and juniors Jennifer Crisman and Melissa Sugar (Newburgh, Ind./Evansville Day School), who each qualified in three individual events. Sophomore Lindsay Carlberg (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) and freshman Jenay Karlson (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) each will swim in two individual events, while senior Emily Cocks (Albion, Mich./Albion HS) qualified in one.
Michigan also will swim in four of the five relay events, with freshman Laura Kaznecki (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Western HS), Shakespeare, Crisman, Sugar, Carlberg and Cocks making up the Wolverine relay squads. Shakespeare and Crisman are members of all four relay teams.

Wolverines Ranked Seventh in CSCAA Poll
In the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America Poll (3/9/00), the Michigan women's swimming and diving team is ranked seventh in the country. The next poll results will be released March 23, 2000.
