Michigan Defeats Ragin' Cajuns, Remains Unbeaten

Michigan jumped out to a 1-0 advantage behind victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots. The marquee matchup at No. 1 doubles was won 8-4 by Louisiana-Lafayette's No. 55-ranked Eduardo Gordilho and Michal Jordan over No. 43-ranked Matt Wright (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate HS) and sophomore Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./Canterbury School). The Wolverines rallied as senior co-captains John Long (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) and Brad McFarlane (Kingston, Ontario/Bayridge Secondary HS) posted an 8-4 victory against Osvaldo Biffe and Jakub Ilowski at the No. 2 spot. Senior Ron Nano (Great Neck, N.Y./South HS) and sophomore Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) won 8-3 over Bernard Kaczorowski and Bruno Puzzi at the No. 3 spot to secure the team point.
With the advantage heading into singles, the Wolverines managed to hold on for the victory by winning three-set matches at four of the six spots. The Ragin' Cajuns grabbed two quick points as Ilowski and Puzzi won matches at the No. 3 and No. 5 spots. The Wolverines received victories from Wright (No. 1), Long (No. 2), Henry Beam (No. 4) and Nano (No. 6) to remain undefeated in the dual match season.
Michigan looks to extend its seven-match winning streak against No. 47 Tulane tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, March 12, 1 p.m. CST) in New Orleans, La.

N O T E S
-- Matt Wright defeated No. 13-ranked Eduardo Gordilho in three sets (7-6, 2-6, 6-4) to claim his team-leading 17th victory (17-5). It was also the highest ranked competitor that Wright has beaten in his career, with the previous best coming against No. 41-ranked Oliver Freelove of Illinois on April 25, 1998.
-- Ron Nano claimed his 10th singles victory of the season with a come-from-behind win over Bernard Kaczorowski at the No. 6 spot (4-6, 7-5, 6-4). Nano has a 10-6 overall record and is 6-1 in dual match competition.
-- John Long and Henry Beam collected their 15th victories of the season against Ragin' Cajuns.
