This Weekend
The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team (1-2) will take 10 of its tankers to the Continental Airlines Classic, hosted by Rice University on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 10-11) at Rice Pool in Houston, Texas. The Wolverines will face off against second-ranked California, Illinois, Missouri, No. 22 Penn State and Rice.

Scouting the Foes
Rice will host the first annual Continental Airlines Classic. Samantha Arsenault's U.S. Olympic teammate Staciana Stitts of California will compete in the 200 freestyle and 100 fly. Also scheduled to compete are world-ranked Natalie Coughlin and Haley Cope of California, Kristin Woodring of Penn State and 2000 NCAA finalist Jessica Aveyard of Illinois. Wolverines Fall to North Carolina
In the battle between ninth-ranked teams, Michigan dropped its two-day meet at North Carolina (Nov. 3-4) 207-163 at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Wolverines found themselves down 110-76 after the first day of competition. The Maize and Blue was closer on the second day, earning 87 points to the Tar Heels' 97.
The freshman duo of Samantha Arsenault and Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends School) continued their strong performances this season, winning multiple events. Arsenault won the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.58) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:52.33). Kelemen swept the diving, taking the one-meter with a score of 271.85 and the three-meter with a score of 282.90.
Also earning victories were Jennifer Crisman in the 50-yard freestyle (23.10), Lindsay Carlberg in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:02.50), and the relay team of Crisman, Laura Kaznecki, Jennifer Arndt, and Melissa Sugar picked up a pair of wins in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays with times of 1:33.91 and 3:24.17, respectively.
Speedo America's CSCAA Coaches Poll
Michigan is tied for ninth with North Carolina in the preseason CSCAA Coaches Poll (Oct. 26). The next poll will be released on Nov. 16.
