U-M Shut Out by Two-Time Defending National Champs

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Michigan men's soccer team suffered a 7-0 loss to the No. 5-ranked Indiana Hoosiers Sunday (Oct. 8). The Wolverines, who were outshot 14-6 for the game, gave up five goals in the first half to the two-time defending national champions.
Indiana (9-3, 3-0 Big Ten) started quickly, scoring at the 1:38 mark on a penalty kick by Matt Fundenberger. Fundenberger went on to score two more goals in the first half along with two other goals by the Hoosiers to give Indiana a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Michigan (4-5, 0-2 Big Ten) had a little more success in the second half on offense, mustering four shots on the Hoosiers' defense. The Wolverines had three corner kicks in the second half but were unable to take advantage of those situations to score.
The Wolverines' next match is against instate rival Michigan State on Sunday (Oct. 15) on the U-M Soccer Field as a part of a doubleheader with the U-M women's team. The men's game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. following the women's 1 p.m. match with Ohio State.
