U-M Men's Tennis Competes at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

Senior co-captains John Long (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) and Brad McFarlane (Kingston, Ontario/Bayridge Secondary HS) posted a pair of doubles wins before falling in a third round to No. 3-seeded Mike Dektas and James Kent of West Virginia. Long and McFarlane lost the first set in a tie-breaker, dominated the second set 6-2, and pushed the third set into another tie-breaker before falling 7-4 in the tie-breaker. Long and McFarlane opened with an impressive first-round victory over Massachusetts' Todd Champeau and Parsa Samil (6-2, 6-0) and came back from an opening-set loss to beat Southern Alabama's Julian Raynal and Kosta Zinchanka in the second round.
In singles, Long and McFarlane posted 1-1 records in the championship bracket. Long blanked Northern Illinois' Brent Sitarski (6-0, 6-0) in the first round but suffered a three-set loss to Minnesota's Harsh Mankad (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) in the second round. McFarlane beat Ohio State's Bjorn Munroe (6-3, 6-3) in the opening round and lost in straight sets to Erik Dmytruk of California (7-6, 6-2) in the second round. Freshman Chris Rolf (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) posted a 1-2 singles record at the tournament, defeating Marquette's Kent Davies (6-2, 6-1) in the consolation draw.
Michigan will open the dual match season on Sunday, Jan. 23, against Western Michigan at the Varsity Tennis Center. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
