Wright Reaches Quarters at ITA Midwest Region IV Meet

Senior Matt Wright (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate HS) reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships before losing to Northwestern's Brad Erickson (7-6, 6-2). After a first-round bye, Wright breezed through his first three matches in straight sets, beating Northwestern's Jamie Sahara (6-0, 6-2), Butler's Brandon Currie (6-0, 6-3) and Illinois' Graydon Oliver (6-4, 6-3).
Fellow senior John Long (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) reached fourth-round tournament action after defeating Northern Illinois' Mattias Ardfelt (7-6, 2-6, 6-3) and Minnesota's Juerge Duenas (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) in three-set matches. Long lost to Iowa's Tyler Cleveland in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) to end the tournament with a 2-1 record.
The Wolverines sophomore trio of Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS), Ben Cox (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) and Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./Canterbury School) each won first-round matches at the ITA Midwest Region IV Championships before falling in second-round action.
In doubles play, Cox and senior Ron Nano (Great Neck, N.Y./South HS) teamed to post a 2-1 record. The tandem defeated Marquette's Rossi and Verban (8-3) and Minnesota's Maukart and Duenas (9-7) before losing 8-6 in the third round to Trinidad and Ken Kigongo of Michigan State.
