Wolverines Storm Past Central Michigan, 5-1
10/13/1999 12:00:00 AM | Field Hockey
Michigan opened the floodgates with four first-half goals, sparked by Erica Widder's (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) third goal of the season. The Wolverines outshot the Chippewas by a 20-1 count in the first half and 27-6 for the game.
Leading the way for the Maize and Blue was Regan Wulfsberg (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown HS), who scored Michigan's third and fifth goals. Courtney Reid (South Deerfield, Mass./Northfield-Mount Hermon HS) added assists on goals from Stephanie Johnson (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid School) and Molly Powers (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS).
Defensively, the Wolverines were smothering, allowing just six shots for the game and forcing goaltender Maureen Tasch (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) into making just two saves on the afternoon. Tasch is now 2-0 on the season, with a 0.71 goals against average.
Michigan, which has won three consecutive games and eight of its last nine, will return to action Sunday (Oct. 17, 1 p.m.), when Michigan State comes to Ann Arbor for a crucial Big Ten Conference meeting.
