Wolverines Complete Sweep of Alaska Fairbanks

The game started off quickly with five goals scored in the first period. Langfeld started the scoring for Michigan at 1:14 with assists from Mike Comrie (Edmonton, Alberta) and Dave Huntzicker (Ann Arbor, Mich.). Geoff Koch (Exeter, N.H.) scored his first goal of the season on a power play with assists from Bubba Berenzweig (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Scott Matzka (Port Huron, Mich.) less than a minute later.
Alaska Fairbanks answered 32 seconds later with a goal from Kevin McNeill. Berenzweig scored the final Michigan goal of the period at the 6:33 mark, and the Nanooks closed out the scoring with an even-strength goal from Chris Kirwan to make the score 3-2 going into the first intermission.
In the second period, Michigan pulled ahead with Langfeld's second goal of the evening at 5:37 when he deflected a shot from Mark Kosick (Victoria, B.C.) and Huntzicker with his skate. Freshman defenseman Jeff Jillson (North Smithville, R.I.) notched his first goal of the year at 8:34 from Sean Peach (Langley, B.C.) and Berenzweig.
Langfeld completed a hat trick in the third period with his fifth goal of the season, at 7:09. Following the goal, Kevin O'Malley (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) replaced Josh Blackburn (Choctaw, Okla.) in net. The Nanooks closed out the scoring with their third goal of the game 40 seconds later.
Blackburn (6-1-0) celebrated his 20th birthday by earnign his sixth win of the season. Alaska Fairbanks' goaltender Ian Perkins fell to 3-4-0 on the season.
The Wolverines return to action on Saturday (Nov. 14) with a game against the CCHA-leading Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The starting time is 7 p.m. in South Bend, Ind.
