A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Weinstein McGrath transferred to Michigan before the 1978-1979 season and became a standout on the swimming and diving team. Competing under the banner of the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) and the guidance of her diving coach, Dick Kimball, Weinstein McGrath put Michigan diving in the headlines. She was a three-time national champion on platform (10M, 33 feet) in 1976, 1979 and 1980 and a four-year All-American. She also won a gold medal on the platform at the 1979 Pan American Games; competing on platform she vanquished the competition, winning a gold medal. As part of the 1980 United States Olympic Team, she was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the United States Congress. In 1980, she graduated from Michigan with Phi Beta Kappa distinction and also earned the Marie Hartwig Award, which recognizes U-M’s female athlete of the year. Photo Gallery
