- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Tiffany Hansen will enter her eighth season as an assistant coach with the University of Michigan women's soccer team in 2022. She joined the Wolverine coaching staff in January 2015 and works primarily with the Maize and Blue goalkeepers.Â
Hansen also oversees Michigan's recruiting efforts and has made an immediate and instrumental impact in bringing top-level talent to Ann Arbor. She helped bring the nation's No. 6 recruiting class to Ann Arbor in 2017, which included the No. 1 goalkeeper in the country in Beall. Several other top-20 classes have dotted Hansen's tenure as well.
During her time in Ann Arbor, Beall morphed into one of the top goalkeepers in program history, culminating in a United Soccer Coaches North Region Second Team honors, and All-Big Ten Tournament team honors during the 2021 season.
Under Hansen's tutelage, the U-M goalkeeping contingent had 12 shutouts in the historic 2021 season and six clean sheets in the 2019 campaign.
In 2018, Hansen's goalkeeping contingent posted five shutouts.
In her first four seasons with Hansen on staff, the Wolverines allowed an average of just one goal per game and recorded 25 shutouts in 78 total games. Under Hansen's guidance, goalkeeper Sarah Jackson was named to the All-Big Ten Third Team in her senior season, and was twice named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week as a junior. During the 2017 season, Hansen managed one of the most talented goalkeeping units in the county, as Michigan rotated between three different starting keepers, each with a different style of play and strengths that benefited the program.
Prior to coming to Ann Arbor, she spent four successful seasons at the University of Dayton (2011-14), where she was responsible for all goalkeeper development and training and also served as the program's recruiting coordinator and camp director. She helped lead the Flyers to two A10 Tournament championships (2011, '14), the 2013 A10 regular-season title and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2011, '14).
Hansen mentored two goalkeepers to A10 All-Championship Team honors, and in 2013 helped goalkeeper Elizabeth James collect NSCAA National Player of the Week and two A10 Rookie of the Week distinctions, as well as earn a spot on the A10 All-Rookie Team.
Hansen got her start in collegiate coaching as the goalkeeper coach for three seasons at Bowling Green (2008-11), where she also competed during the final two years of her playing career. In three seasons as an assistant, she helped BGSU record 23 shutouts, including a program-record 14 during the 2008 season. She also guided a Falcon goalkeeper to First Team All-MAC honors. In addition to her success as a goalkeeper coach, Hansen also pursued a Master's degree in food and nutrition from BGSU, earning her degree in 2010.
Hansen began her collegiate playing career at Louisville in 2004, before transferring to Bowling Green for her final two seasons. As a goalkeeper at BGSU, she helped the Falcons set a new record for shutouts in a season with 10 in 2006. She represented Bowling Green as a team captain as a senior and was also a two-time BGSU Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominee (2006-07). Hansen graduated Summa Cum Laude from BGSU with a bachelor's degree in dietetics in 2008.
In addition to her collegiate playing and coaching experience, Hansen also works on the Head Age Group staff for Region II ODP, has recently signed on to work with Michigan ODP across many age groups, and has previously held various positions with the Ohio South and Ohio North Olympic Development Programs. Hansen is currently US Soccer ID Center Staff Coach for Michigan and the Central Region as well as US Soccer Scout for youth national team pool.
She has become a mainstay on the Region II Interregional ODP staff and was twice selected to the staff for an invite-only, Region II, ODP international training camp in Costa Rica. Hansen has also served on the goalkeeping staff for the ECNL Player Development Program.
