Jack Tanner

Jack Tanner joined the University of Michigan women's golf program as an assistant coach in 2026 after building a diverse background as a collegiate and professional golfer, coach and recruiter.
His combination of international playing experience, player development and recruiting brings a unique perspective to the Wolverines both on the course and throughout the recruiting process.
Working alongside head coach Jan Dowling, Tanner assists with all aspects of the program, including player development, recruiting, practice planning and tournament preparation, while drawing on experiences gained competing and coaching in both Australia and the United States.
A native of South Australia, Tanner most recently competed professionally on the PGA Tour of Australasia while coaching at Adelaide Golf Studio and working in golf operations at Kooyonga Golf Club. Balancing competition with coaching allowed him to work with golfers of all skill levels while developing a strong understanding of the daily responsibilities involved in building and supporting a successful collegiate golf program.
Tanner also gained experience as a tour caddie, working alongside professionals Matias Sanchez and Lachlan Barker. That role strengthened his understanding of course management, tournament preparation and performing under pressure while providing another perspective on helping players maximize their performance.
In addition to his coaching experience, Tanner assisted with recruiting efforts alongside the coaching staffs at Kent State, helping identify Australian prospects and guide international student-athletes through the recruiting process and transition to college golf in the United States. Having made that journey himself, he understands both the athletic and personal adjustments required to succeed as an international student-athlete.
Before beginning his collegiate career in the United States, Tanner represented South Australia in national competition and became the youngest player in the 88-year history of the Glenelg Men's Club Championship to earn medalist honors when he accomplished the feat at just 14 years old.
As a collegiate golfer, Tanner competed at both South Dakota State and Memphis, recording nine career top-10 finishes. During his final season at Memphis, he posted four top-10 finishes, highlighted by runner-up performances at the Gulf Coast Collegiate and Folds of Honor Collegiate. Prior to transferring to Memphis, Tanner spent three seasons at South Dakota State, where he twice led the Jackrabbits in scoring average while recording three top-10 finishes.
Tanner earned his bachelor's degree in liberal studies from Memphis in 2024. He is certified in both TrackMan and DECADE Golf, blending modern technology, course strategy and relationship-based coaching with firsthand experience as an international student-athlete to help Michigan's golfers continue developing on the course, in competition and beyond.
