Bjarne Huus joins the Wolverines staff for his first season after two years as a coach at Long Beach State and now enters his second season at Michigan and his first as Associate Head Coach.Â
In his first season with Michigan, Huus worked with the defense and blockers and helped U-M to a 22-11 record. Huus helped Sernea Nyambio to a 100-block conference season, the first for Michigan in the 25-point rally scoring era, and a second team All-Big Ten selection. U-M finished in the top half in the Big Ten in blocks and blocks per set after finising in the bottom three in both categories in the prior season.
Huus was elevated into the Associate Head Coach position by Natalie Reagan prior to the 2024 season and originally joined the staff in March of 2023, hired by Tyler Hildebrand as the team’s assistant and mental performance coach. In his first season with the team, Long Beach State posted a 21-10 overall record, recording the team’s first 20-win season since 2016 and reaching the championship match of the first-ever Big West Championship tournament.
Huus, a Long Beach State alumni, returns to the Beach after playing professionally overseas, playing on Norway’s National Team, and serving as the head coach for the Norwegian Girl’s Youth National Team in the Nordic Championship U17 in 2022.
Huus began his Long Beach State career in 2015 and went on to play four years with the LBSU Men’s Volleyball team culminating with him leading the squad to the 2018 NCAA National Championship. While at the Beach, Huus helped LBSU capture the 2017 MPSF and 2018 Big West Conference Titles. In three of four years, his Long Beach State squads advanced to the Final Four.
Huus graduated from Long Beach State in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
