ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan strength and conditioning program has earned the first-ever Collegiate Program of Distinction recognition by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
The NSCA Collegiate Program of Distinction recognizes colleges and universities that demonstrate excellence in strength and conditioning through high standards of leadership, safety, mentorship, education and facility management.
Unlike an award based on competitive success or championships, the Collegiate Program of Distinction recognizes the systems, standards and culture that support long-term student-athlete development.
Recognition is awarded to institutions that successfully complete a comprehensive application and verification process based on nationally recognized professional standards.
Recognized programs demonstrate commitment to:
• Certified and professionally credentialed strength and conditioning staff
• Comprehensive health and safety education
• Structured internship and mentorship programs
• Continuing education for coaches
• Safe coach-to-athlete supervision standards
• Student-athlete orientation and safety procedures
• Facility management based on NSCA professional standards
• Leadership within the strength and conditioning profession
Michigan will carry the NSCA Collegiate Program of Distinction designation for three years and receive a banner that will hang in the SPC weight room at South Campus.
