
Wolverines Set to Host B1G Rival No. 6 Penn State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (8-1, 1-0 Big Ten) will return to team competition at 1 p.m. on Saturday (March 7), hosting No. 6 Penn State (9-2-1, 1-1 Big Ten) at Cliff Keen Arena. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+.

• Michigan's last NCAA meet was on Feb. 14 against Springfield and Arizona State at Cliff Keen Arena, with the Wolverines sweeping the meet and earning four event titles. Junior Charlie Larson won the floor exercise with a season high of 14.100 and the vault with a score of 14.200 -- his first event titles of the season. Freshmen Eli Osuna and Chase Pappas earned career highs on floor and vault, respectively, while Robert Noll had a season high on high bar and Landen Blixt notched a season high on parallel bars.
• Fred Richard earned the 2026 Winter Cup all-around title on Feb. 21, the first in his career and the first for U-M since Cameron Bock in 2021. The Stoughton, Mass., native earned four additional medals, capturing the floor exercise title and taking bronze on pommel horse, still rings and high bar.
• Larson earned silver on floor exercise with a score of 14.202, while Crew Bold claimed silver on high bar with a 14.263. Sophomores Aaronson Mansberger and Carson Eshleman also competed, with Mansberger placing fourth on pommel horse (13.858). Eshleman's top performance was a 13.150 on vault.
• Bold and Richard were selected to the U.S. Men's National Team roster as a result of their performances.
• The Maize and Blue sits in fifth overall in the Road to Nationals rankings, with an average score of 316.420. Its highest score came in a 320.650-321.850 loss to Oklahoma on Jan. 24.
• The Wolverines remain No. 2 on the pommel horse (53.960), just 0.700 points behind nation-leading Oklahoma (54.660). U-M sits in fourth on still rings (52.550), fifth on vault (55.000) and high bar (51.450), seventh on floor (52.550), and eighth on parallel bars (50.910).
• Richard leads the nation in the all-around (83.650) and on floor (14.050). He is fifth on pommel horse (13.967), seventh on parallel bars (13.867), eighth on still rings (13.667) and ninth on vault (14.050). Larson is tied for 10th on the floor (13.650) after a season-high 14.100 against Springfield and Arizona State. Mansberger is fourth in the nation and second in the Big Ten on pommel horse (13.992), with his 14.900 at the Ohio State Open being the second-highest score of the season. Akshay Puri sits 10th on still rings (13.562).
• Penn State is 9-2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference meets, topping Illinois (316.800-311.000) before falling 318.600-317.150 at Nebraska to open Big Ten action. The Nittany Lions most recently hosted Springfield, defeating the Pride 316.700-308.200 on March 1. PSU took five event titles while Springfield took the pommel horse crown.
• Penn State is ranked No. 6 overall with an average score of 315.517, 0.903 points behind the Wolverines, and third on both pommel horse (52.858) and still rings (52.900). Akseli Karisikas is fifth in the nation and second in the conference in the all-around (78.350). Karisikas is also fourth in the NCAA and leads the Big Ten on high bar (13.717). Matthew Underhill (13.764) and Luke Esparo (13.692) are fifth and seventh, respectively, in the NCAA on still rings.
• The Wolverines will head to Columbus for the second time this season, this time for a dual meet against Ohio State on Monday, March 16. The meet will start at 6 p.m. at Covelli Center and will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
