
U-M to Face No. 10 Penn State in Big Ten Semifinal Saturday at Yost

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The top-ranked and No. 2-seeded University of Michigan ice hockey team (27-7-1, 17-6-1 Big Ten) will host No. 10 Penn State (21-12-2, 12-10-2 Big Ten), the tournament's No. 3 seed, on Saturday (March 14) at Yost Ice Arena in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal. • Michigan defeated Notre Dame, 6-1, on Wednesday in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals at Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines raced out to a 4-0 lead before conceding a late extra-attacker goal in the third period, then added two more scores in the final three minutes. Michael Hage recorded four assists, while Jayden Perron scored twice. Jack Ivankovic made 23 saves to earn his 22nd win of the season.
• Penn State advanced with a 6-2 victory over Minnesota. The Nittany Lions featured six different goal scorers, with Aidan Fink leading the way with three points (one goal, two assists). Joshua Fleming stopped 27 shots as Penn State outshot Minnesota 40-29. PSU also killed both penalties it faced and did not have a power-play opportunity.
• Michigan went 2-1-1 against Penn State during the regular season, collecting eight of a possible 12 points, including a shootout victory. In November, the Wolverines opened the series in State College with a 7-1 win before falling 4-2 the following night. Michigan later earned a shootout win on Feb. 13 at Yost before claiming a 6-3 victory the next night. In the four games, Hage leads Michigan with seven assists, while T.J. Hughes and Nick Moldenhauer each posted three goals and three assists.
• Michigan holds a 33-21-2 edge in the all-time series with Penn State, including a 17-7-1 mark at Yost Ice Arena. However, Penn State is 4-1 against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament, including a quarterfinal sweep last season that ended the Wolverines' campaign.
• The winner of Saturday's semifinal will face the winner of the Michigan State-Ohio State semifinal in the Big Ten Tournament title game on Saturday, March 21. The championship game will be played at 7 p.m. at the home venue of the highest remaining seed.
