
Wolverines to Return to VTC to Continue B1G Action

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team (4-5, 1-1 Big Ten) returns to the Varsity Tennis Center this weekend to kick off a four-match homestand. U-M will host Nebraska (7-4, 0-2 Big Ten) on Friday (March 13) at 4 p.m. and Iowa (8-5, 2-0 Big Ten) on Sunday (March 15) at noon. Admission to all matches at the VTC is free.
Notes
• Michigan returns to the Varsity Tennis Center this weekend, continuing Big Ten action against Nebraska and Iowa.
• The Wolverines are coming off a 1-1 weekend to begin Big Ten action, falling at No. 2 Ohio State (4-1) and shutting out Penn State, 4-0. U-M forced five third sets against the Buckeyes but could not turn the tide, dropping the match before rebounding at PSU.
• Michigan has won the doubles point in four straight matches, going 3-1 in that stretch. U-M has used Lily Jones and Jessica Bernales at No. 1, Reese Miller and Laura Rahnel at No. 2, and Piper Charney and Emily Sartz-Lunde at No. 3. Miller and Rahnel were paired for the first time in U-M's win at Xavier (Feb. 24) and are 3-0 as a pair.
• U-M is 13-0 all-time against the Huskers, recording a 4-0 win in Lincoln last season. The Wolverines have earned shutout wins over Nebraska in each of the last two seasons.
• The Wolverines are 44-11 in the series against Iowa after a 4-0 road victory last year. Michigan has recorded five straight shutouts of the Hawkeyes.
• Jones became the first Wolverine to reach the 20-win mark in singles this year after recording a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 in Michigan's win over Penn (Jan. 24). She is 24-6 on the season, reaching 20 wins for the fourth straight season. She picked up the 100th win of her career during the NCAA Singles Championship and is now ninth all-time at Michigan with 109 singles wins.
• Michigan has three ranked singles players in Charney (No. 14), Jones (No. 15) and Miller (No. 123). Charney and Jones each earned ITA All-America honors in singles this past fall by reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship.
• Head coach Ronni Bernstein is in her 19th season as the head coach, holding a 555-202 overall coaching record. She is 387-108 as the Michigan head coach, leading Michigan to 12 Big Ten championships and six Big Ten tournament titles.
• Michigan completes its four-match homestand next weekend, hosting UCLA (March 21) and USC (March 22).
