MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team scored 1,208 points to finish second overall on Saturday (Feb. 28) ending four days of competition at the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Soderholm Family Aquatic Center. No. 3-ranked Indiana won the Big Ten team title with a tally of 1,544 points.
Michigan closed strong in the final preliminary session of the meet, with seven Wolverines punching their tickets to championship finals, including three in the 200-yard IM.
Senior Tyler Ray put a bow on his final conference meet with a win in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a meet record mark of 1:38.82. Ray completed the sweep of the individual butterfly events after winning the 100-yard butterfly on Thursday (Feb. 26).
Ray is the third straight Wolverine to win the 200-yard butterfly conference crown, joining Colin Geer (2025) and Gal Groumi (2024) in the winners' circle. The senior is the first Michigan men's swimmer to win both fly events in the same Big Ten meet since Dan Madwed in 2012.
Ray was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Championships for his efforts, the second Wolverine in three years to win the award after Groumi earned the honor in 2024.
Elsewhere in the pool, Geer shined in the 200-yard IM and took the silver with a time of 1:40.15 to lead a trio of U-M swimmers in the A final.
Freshman Antoine Sauve led all Maize and Blue athletes with a time of 42.18 seconds to finish fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. Lorne Wigginton closed his meet with a fourth-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle, posting a mark of 14:46.09.
Jack Wilkening and Inbar Danziger dominated the B final in the 200-yard backstroke. Wilkening won the heat with a mark of 1:40.83, while Danziger finished second with a time of 1:41.25.
The quartet of Ole Eidam, Ray, Wilkening and Sauve wrapped the meet with a silver medal in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The foursome broke the school record with a time of 2:47.01.
In diving, both Julian Cardenas and Emmitt Reesor reached the consolation final in the platform dive. Cardenas scored 257.45 points, while Reesor registered a tally of 248.45 to finish 14th and 15th, respectively.
Next up, select Michigan swimmers will take part in the Last Chance Meet on March 6.
